Trevor Day School is seeking candidates for a leave replacement Middle and Upper School Learning Specialist for the fall of 2025 (September to mid-November). This individual is a member of the Academic Support Department and also serves as an advisor to a group of students. Learning specialists evaluate the needs of students and provide one-to-one and small-group academic support that addresses a variety of learning styles and challenges with a focus on skill development. They collaborate with advisors, teachers, deans, and administrators and maintain close communication with families, tutors, and other professionals. They meet with families and outside evaluators as needed to discuss completed evaluations and requisite accommodations at the school. As a team, learning specialists assess and improve schoolwide systems of academic support to promote student success and independence.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in special education or a related field preferred.

  • Experience modeling and implementing organizational structures to support student learning outcomes.

  • Knowledge of neuropsych evaluations, IEPs, IESPs, 504 plans, and testing accommodations preferred.

  • Enthusiasm for working with Middle and Upper School students and faculty in a collaborative environment.

  • Proven ability to form strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Growth mindset and passion for learning. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with documentation and record keeping.

  • Flexibility, creativity, patience, and a sense of humor. 

The full-time salary range for this position is $65,000–$115,000. Leave replacement positions are compensated at a proportion of this range. When extending an offer for employment, Trevor Day School bases the salary upon several factors that include (but are not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education, training, key skills, and peer salary equity.
